 Herbs
and spices are much more than just exquisite ingredients, they
are inspiration and food for our fantasy and senses. Many explorers
like Marco Polo or Vasco da Gama made adventurous attempts to
bring valuable spices like pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg or vanilla
to middle-age Europe. There they were turned into gold and transformed
cities like Venice or Hamburg into what we still admire as jewels
nowadays.
But their taste was not the only reason for their high value in
former times. It was mainly their healing properties that made
them famous. Local herbs and exotic spices were the basis the
natural pharmacy, which for centuries was absolutely essential
for most common practices amongst witches and monks for centuries.
Nowadays spice flavours invite
us on countless expeditions, as full of variations as the foods
of the world itself: Sometimes we take a bite of distant and unknown
lands that we have never seen before. Another time we reminisce
about flavours like holiday memories that bring back our nicest
experiences. Sometimes we time travel to the past and wallow in
the familiar taste of our childhood.
This is how cooking with spices
and herbs invites us to come along on an expedition that leads
far away to the endless and varied realm of joy. We from Kotányi
do everything possible in order to make sure you are able to accept
this invitation day by day. |
